Certified Child Life Specialists are educated and clinically trained in trauma reduction, in addition to the developmental impact of illness and injury. Their role helps improve patient and family care, satisfaction, and overall experience. Certification is awarded through the international professional organization, the Association of Child Life Professionals, after reaching a Masters Level of education, and completing an extensive clinical internship.

Certified Child Life Specialists help infants, children, youth and families cope with the stress and uncertainty of acute and chronic illness, injury, trauma, disability, loss and bereavement. They provide evidence-based, developmentally and psychologically appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and education to reduce fear, anxiety, and pain.

Hello, I’m Lauren Pitchforth, and I’m deeply passionate about helping adolescents and their families navigate through the many of challenges life can throw our way. With a master’s degree in Child and Youth Care, I’ve dedicated over seven years of my career to supporting young people and their families in hospital and mental health school settings.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse groups of adolescents and families facing a wide range of struggles. My goal is to empower young people to recognize that their problems are separate from their identities, and that they possess the resilience to overcome them no matter how difficult it may seem.

I specialize in supporting individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, family separation, and complex trauma. To address these challenges, I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), exposure therapy, narrative therapy, and play therapy, tailoring my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual.

I firmly believe in creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. My approach is grounded in empathy, compassion, and a deep understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents.

Continuing education is important to me, and I make it a point in my life to stay informed about the latest research and best practices in mental health. Outside of my clinical practice, I enjoy going to the gym, practicing mindfulness and spending quality time with my loved ones.

I am excited to meet you and support you in becoming an even more remarkable version of yourself.

Hi, I’m Jessica! I’m a Registered Provisional Psychologist here in Alberta. I know from personal experience that asking for help and prioritizing your mental health is really hard. Facing the difficult aspects of your life is scary and it’s much easier to stay in the same patterns that have kept you afloat and helped you survive. But if you find those patterns aren’t working for you anymore, it can be worth it to take that leap and reach out - and I’d love to take that step with you! I often work with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and those dealing with anxiety, depression, personality disorders (specifically borderline personality disorder), relationship issues, trauma/PTSD, and complex trauma.

I enjoy working with teens (ages 13+), adults, and couples. I also offer various functional/vocational assessments, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD diagnosis. I operate from a person-centred lens, which means I believe that you are the expert on your own life. You’re steering the ship in our sessions, and I’m there to support you by offering a compassionate, down-to-earth, and candid style of therapy (laughter also guaranteed). I have training and experience in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), among others.

I love connecting with people from all walks of life and cultures. I believe in accepting people for who they are in the moment they sit down in our space. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

I have been a pediatric physiotherapist specializing in neurodevelopmental disorders for nearly 10 years. During this time, I found that there is nothing more professionally rewarding than seeing the quality of life improve for kids with gross motor challenges. I use evidence-based treatment methods in a fun, play-based environment while working towards the goals set up collaboratively with the family and other clinicians. My journey as a physiotherapist started in South Africa at the University of Pretoria, where I graduated in the early 2000s. During my time working in remote villages, I discovered my love for pediatric physiotherapy. I migrated to Canada, with my husband, in 2005 and have since continued to expand my extensive working knowledge of not only neurology, but also musculoskeletal and orthopedics through my work in hospital and private clinic settings. I continue to also work part-time at an independent school as a physiotherapist, servicing children with needs ranging from cerebral palsy, heart defects, developmental delay, ASD and various syndromes including Fragile X, Angelman, arthrogryposis, and Down syndrome. On the personal side, I am a mom of four beautiful kids. Together with my husband, we enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities – whether it is winter or summer. I also love horses, I have been riding horses since I was six and enjoy jumping recreationally or going for a long trail ride by the river. It was my love for horses and kids that drew me to incorporate horses in my treatment methodology – known as hippotherapy. I am an American Hippotherapy Association member and have completed Level 1 of their Hippotherapy certification.

As an attachment focused and trauma informed therapist, I work with individuals and couples to identify how traumatic experiences, grief and loss, experiencing neglect or abuse, and other distressing experiences may be keeping you stuck in a pattern of distress. Unresolved trauma can maintain feelings of depression, anxiety, self criticism, difficulty regulating or expressing your emotions, difficulty in feeling close with others, as well as difficulty in setting boundaries. It can also contribute to PTSD, phobias, disordered eating, and a number of other mental health challenges. I use approaches such as Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Being trauma informed means that I understand that it may take a while for you to feel safe and ready to change, while I will gently point out times where you may be getting in your own way. You may have identified some great ways of coping with distressing feelings. I work with you to build on your current strengths and to develop further strategies to cope and heal. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to book a complementary consultation so that you can find the best fit for your individual goals. Cheers!

I was born and raised in Whitecourt, Alberta and moved to Edmonton to attend MacEwan University. I graduated in 2015 and have been working on speech and language goals with children ever since. I love that my job revolves around play, exploration and discovery. I try to keep my sessions fun because I believe that when we are having fun, we are more open and willing to learn!

I have experience in working with individuals ages 1-18 in one on one sessions, small groups and large groups. I work with speech sound delays, language disorders and delays and am experienced using Augmentative and Alternative Communication. I am passionate about working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and love focusing on social skills during our sessions.

When I am not working, I am probably somewhere with my dog, doing something crafty or trying out a new recipe.

Hi, I’m Colleen! I graduated with my masters in Occupational Therapy in 2013 from the University of Alberta and have diverse experience working with children and adults as both a mental health therapist and occupational therapist. Since becoming a parent, I have developed a special interest in maternal mental health, as well as infant and pediatric feeding.

As a mom to three young children, all of whom had tethered oral tissues and various feeding struggles, I understand how stressful feeding can be. These experiences inspired me to specialize further as a pediatric feeding therapist. My hope is that mealtime can become be a time of connection and comfort for all family members. My approach to therapy is to come alongside children and their families with comprehensive assessment to understand the ‘why’ behind feeding struggles. Then we can collaborate together to make a plan that is meaningful, functional, and fun.

In addition to my feeding specialization, I am happy to support family mental health, emotional regulation, activities of daily living, sensory integration, and fine/gross motor development.

Outside of work, you’ll find me on outdoor adventures with my family and sipping really good coffee.

I look forward to supporting you!

Hi, I’m Madison (or Madi). I was born and raised in Sherwood Park/Edmonton, Alberta. I completed my Bachelor of Arts at the University of Alberta and my minor in Linguistics is what got me interested in speech and language. I then went on to study at MacEwan University to get my Diploma as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA).

I have experience working with pediatric clients in areas including speech sound delays, language disorders and delays, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

My favourite part about working in the field of speech and language is seeing the progression client’s start to show and the confidence they gain. It’s an incredibly rewarding career for this reason.

I completed my masters at the University of Toronto in 2016, packed up all my belongings in a minivan, and made the big move across the country to Alberta. I began my career working alongside a team of occupational therapists, psychologists, and other speech-language pathologists in the school setting. Our team collaborated to provide universal programming at the classroom level in areas such as social skills and reading comprehension as well as provided support and recommendations to teachers. I also provided individual services to students from kindergarten to grade 12, in both one-on-one sessions and small group settings.

One integral aspect of my practice is formulating speech and language goals for my clients that are both unique to their communication needs and functional within their environment. I am a strong believer of including close communication partners into the therapy session to help promote the carry-over of skills into the child’s everyday life and I have seen firsthand the benefit of doing so.
